Craig Carton claims Dak Prescott becoming a father is a ‘terrible distraction’ for Dallas Cowboys

Fox Sports show host Craig Carton provided the textbook example for Dak Prescott this week after the Cowboys quarterback revealed why he kept his girlfriend’s pregnancy under wraps. On FS1’s The Carton Show on Tuesday, the host brought into question Prescott’s girlfriend, Sarah Jane Ramos’, and her motivations for having a child with the QB despite the couple not being married.

“That’s a mistake,” Carton began. “There goes the Cowboys’ season… this is a terrible distraction now for Dak Prescott. He’s not married, right? So now I’ve got to question is she a gold digger?

“She might not be. I got to question it right. You got everything going great, the last thing you need is a distraction.”

“I hope they have a beautiful, healthy child,” Carton concluded. “I hope it all works out. But this is not what Cowboy fans want to hear.”

Following the social media announcement of the couple’s pregnancy, Prescott opened up about wanting to protect Ramos from, presumably, exactly this kind of discussion.

“We’ve known for a long time what we were having,” Prescott said, via DallasCowboys.com. “To be candid, I wasn’t waiting any particular [length of] time. I think people that know me have known. I would say it hadn’t been a secret. If anything, for me, it’s about protecting her. Understanding fans can be fans but there’s no reason to bother her.

“The nasty messages that people want to send me, that I deserve and nobody else does, is part of it. The main reason is she was tired of hiding [her belly] in pictures, and the bump is a little bit too big to hide.”

Prescott excited to welcome first child

Prescott and Ramos made their relationship public on social media over the last few months. Now, they’ll venture into the world of parenthood with a baby girl as the QB continues navigating his eighth season in the league.

The former fourth-rounder admitted fatherhood would have been more difficult early in his career but now, at 30 years old, he’s prepared to be a “Girl Dad.” Contrary to Carton’s comments, Prescott believes Ramos is helping him focus, not serving as a distraction.

“You can definitely say it would have been harder earlier in my career,” Prescott said. “It comes with growth, with growing up. It comes with life … I can’t imagine, honestly, being in this position, being blessed like this earlier in my career. God’s timing is everything. But also, I credit Sarah Jane in the sense of allowing me to focus on what I want to, especially knowing what this means to me. That’s who deserves a lot of credit for me being able to balance this.”

By all accounts, Prescott has been locked in recently. In his past six games, he has thrown for 1,874 yards and completed 72.3% of his passes with 18 touchdown passes and two interceptions. He’s even making a case for league MVP.

The Cowboys take on the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday Night Football in Week 13 action. Dallas carries a 13-game home winning streak, which is currently the longest in the league.
